Every year for the past 50 years, with the exception of four times, Tennessee’s road fatalities have numbered over 1,000.  Thankfully, 2013 was one of those years that fell under 1,000 with 988 people losing their lives on Tennessee’s roads this past year.  The Tennessee Highway Safety Department said the number of unrestrained deaths fell along with the number of deaths due to DUI or Impaired Driving.  The THP credits aggressive safety campaigns and additional “no refusal” roadblocks.

One set of numbers that grew; however, were the numbers of accidents and deaths caused by “distracted driving” (mainly texting while driving).  Authorities report these types of accidents are on the rise in Tennessee.  This year, they will be rolling out additional safety campaigns on TV and radio and print, as well as adding unmarked cars across the state who’s primary purpose is to catch and ticket people guilty of “distracted driving”.

We at Keith Williams are passionate about safety on our roads, we’ve seen firsthand what traffic accidents can do to people’s lives.  We hope to be rolling out our own local safety campaign against Distracted Driving in the next few months, so stay tuned for exciting news!
