The Electrolux Group has issued a recall for its Frigidaire Gas Cooktops after it was found they suffered from a significant defect that could lead to a gas leak and cause a potential fire. This is because the plastic control knobs with a black shaft were found to sometimes break during use. Anyone using these cooktops should cease use immediately and contact the manufacturer for free replacement knobs.

What is the Electrolux Group?

The Electrolux Group is a Swedish appliance manufacturer that sells its products around the world. While its name is most commonly associated with vacuum cleaners, it also manufactures a variety of other home appliances, including refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers, and stovetops. It sells its products under a variety of brand names, including Anova Applied Electronics, Fridgidaire, Gibson, Mademsa, Sanitaire, and White-Westinghouse, among others.

What Are These Cooktops?

The recalled cooktops are the Frigidaire Stainless-Steel 30-inch 4 Burner Gas Cooktops (model FFGC3026SS) and Frigidaire Stainless-Steel 36-inch 5 Burner Gas Cooktops (model FFGC3626SS) with control knobs with black shafts. Like other gas cooktops, they are used for cooking food using their gas burners. A version of these cooktops that uses chrome shafts for its control knobs is not affected by this recall.

Why Were They Recalled?

They were recalled after it was discovered that the control knobs with the black shafts could break while being used. This would cause gas to leak from the cooktop, and could potentially result in a fire. At least 63 reports of these breakages have been reported, with at least one person injured as a result of a gas leak and one case of property damage from a fire.

What Should You Do?

If you have one of these stovetops, you should cease using them immediately and contact the manufacturer for free replacement knobs.
