Dynabook, Inc. has issued a recall for more than 15 million laptop AC adapters due to burn and fire hazards. According to reports, these laptop adapters will sometimes overheat and spark, which can burn people and potentially start fires. Anyone who has one of these adapters should stop using them and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

What is Dynabook?

Dynabook, Inc., is the company formerly known as Toshiba Client Solutions Co., Ltd., and manufactures Toshiba brand products, including laptops, PCs, and power adapters, among other things. The company claims to have created the first mass-market laptop computer, the Toshiba T1100, in 1985, and is currently owned by the Sharp Corporation. It has an annual revenue of $1.5 billion and employs 2,680 people worldwide, including in the United States and Japan.

What is This Product?

The recalled products are the AC adapters used to power Toshiba brand laptop computers, which were manufactured between 2008 and 2012. These adapters were sold both with the laptop computers themselves, as well as being sold separately. Why Was it Recalled?

These Toshiba laptop AC adapters were recalled after it was found that they posed a potential risk of causing fires, burns or shocks due to issues with overheating. At least 679 reports have been made that referenced the adapters overheating, catching fire, melting, or burning. In at least 43 of these cases, there were reports of minor burn injuries related to these issues.

What Should You Do?

If you have one of these defective AC adapters, you should stop using them immediately and contact the manufacturer on how to get a replacement.
