In a complaint recently filed by B. Keith Williams of Lannom & Williams, PLLC, the two daughters of Donna Martin have sued Wilson County, TN, for the wrongful death of their mother. The complaint arises from an ambulance accident that severely injured their mother, leaving her with injuries that would ultimately prove fatal. The plaintiffs are seeking justice for the harm that their mother suffered as a result of the accident, and to ensure that a similar accident does not happen again in the future.
The Events Leading Up to the Accident
According to the complaint, Donna Martin had suffered a series of strokes related to brain cancer, and had been left bedridden from her illness. As a result, an ambulance (owned by Wilson County) was called on October 5, 2025 to transport her to Vanderbilt Hospital in Lebanon, TN for physical therapy and treatment. However, as the ambulance was en route to the hospital, the driver failed to turn correctly, running the ambulance off the road and causing it to collide with a tree, which in turn led to it rolling over and falling into a ditch.
The Harm Suffered in the Accident
Donna Martin was severely injured in the accident, including suffering a traumatic brain injury, two broken ribs, and a hematoma on her thigh. She was subsequently transported to a hospice, where she would ultimately die on October 17, 2024. Her next of kin, her two daughters, subsequently sued the County for the harm their mother suffered.
Daughters Sue For Alleged Negligence
The two daughters, Heather Haynes and Holly Hendeshot, have sued the county for alleged negligence that led to the wrongful death of Donna Martin. The suit accuses the ambulance driver, who was an employee of the county, of failing to take proper care when transporting her to the hospital. If they had been more careful, the accident might not have occurred and Donna Martin might still be alive.
Seeking Justice for the Deceased
Lawsuits like these are critical for seeking justice when people are injured or killed due to the negligence of others. While nothing can ever bring the victim back, at least it can help bring some comfort and restitution to the bereaved. This type of litigation also helps to hold negligent parties accountable, making it less likely that similar accidents will happen again in the future.
