Fisher-Price has issued a recall for more than two million Snuga Infant Swings after it was found they had a defect that posed a risk of suffocation for small children. At least five children have allegedly died due to these defective swings, all of whom were between one and three months old. Anyone who has one of these swings should contact the manufacturer for a refund.

What is Fisher-Price?

Fisher-Price is a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc., which is headquartered in East Aurora, New York. It is one of the largest manufacturers of toys and educational tools for young children in the United States, and has a number of popular brands under its umbrella, including Imaginext, Laugh & Learn, Little People, and Thomas and Friends. The company makes an estimated $1 billion in revenue each year, and employs more than 700 people.

What Are These Swings?

The Snuga Infant Swings are swings made for infant children that allow the swings to move back and forth, or side to side, for the purposes of calming or entertaining them. These include a wide variety of models of swings, a full list of which can be found here. They were sold between October 2010 and January 2024 for about $160 each.

Why Were They Recalled?

The swings were recalled after five children were found to have suffocated after being left to sleep inside the infant swings. In all five cases, the swings had additional bedding added to them to allow them to be used for sleeping, and the children were left unrestrained. Additionally, it was found that the headrest and body support insert inside the swings can potentially increase the chances of suffocation.

What Should You Do?

If you have one of these swings, you can contact the manufacturer for a refund, and for guidance on how to limit the risk of potential suffocation to your child. If your child was injured while using this product, your first priority should be to get them immediate medical attention.
