Anker Innovations has issued a recall for more than one million of its PowerCore 10000 power banks (model A1263) after it was found they had a defect that could cause fires and accidental burns. This has resulted in at least 19 incidents resulting in fires or explosions. Anyone who has one of the affected power banks should stop using them and contact the manufacturer for a free replacement.

What is Anker?

Anker Innovations, Ltd., is an international electronics manufacturer that is headquartered in Changsha, China. Among other things, it produces power banks, chargers, cables, and other accessories used for portable electronics. It made an estimated $3.4 billion in revenue in 2024, and employs approximately 5,000 employees.

What is This Product?

The Anker PowerCore 10000 power banks are a type of portable power source used to charge electronics when other sources of power are not necessarily available. They have a lithium-ion battery, which holds energy to recharge things like cell phones, tablets, and other electronics. They were sold online through a number of websites, including Amazon, Newegg, and Ebay, as well as through the Anker website, from June 2016 through December 2022 for about $27.

Why is it Being Recalled?

These power banks are being recalled due to a defect that can cause the battery inside it to overheat, which can cause burns to anyone who makes contact with it. In more extreme circumstances, it can even catch fire or explode, increasing the risks of accidental fires and potentially serious injuries. At least 19 incidents have been reported related to these power banks, including two minor burns and 11 reports of property damage.
