Samsung has issued a product recall for its Slide-In Electric Ranges after it was found they suffered from a defect that could cause the stove to turn on without warning. This puts owners at risk of causing accidental burns or fires. Anyone who has one of these affected ranges should cease using them and call the company for locks or covers to prevent accidental fires.

What is Samsung?

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a multinational electronics manufacturer headquartered out of South Korea. It makes a number of different consumer appliances, including electric stoves, refrigerators, TVs, laptop computers, and cell phones, among other things. The company made an estimated $198 billion in revenue in 2023, and employs more than 270,000 employees.

What Are These Electric Ranges?

The Slide-In Electric Ranges are a series of combination electric stoves and ovens that were manufactured between 2013 and 2024. Some had additional features, such as the ability to connect to Wi-Fi, and were sold both in stores like Best Buy, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe’s, as well as through online store fronts. They retailed for between $1,250 and $3,000, with a full list of affected models available here.

Why Are They Being Recalled?

The electric ranges are being recalled due to a defect that could cause people to accidentally turn on the stoves by making contact with the knobs mounted on the front of the range, with even children and pets having been able to activate the stoves. This could cause them to heat up without warning, resulting in a risk of burns from accidental contact with the stove, as well as creating the risk of accidental fires. At least 250 fires have been attributed to this defect, resulting in at least 40 injuries.

What Should You Do?

If you have one of the affected stoves, you should cease using it and contact Samsung for knob locks or covers that can prevent the stove from accidentally turning on. If you have suffered burns due to a fire caused by one of these stoves, you should seek immediate medical attention.
