Kawasaki, the international vehicle manufacturing company, has issued a recall for more than 68,000 engines used in a variety of lawn and garden vehicles. A defect was found that could cause the engines to overheat during regular use, creating a risk of burns as well as a fire hazard. People with affected motors should contact the manufacturer or an authorized dealer for a free repair.

What is Kawasaki?

Kawasaki Heavy Industries is a major manufacturing conglomerate based out of Tokyo, Japan, which is responsible for making a variety of different products for residential, commercial, and military use. Among its many products includes motorcycles, lawnmowers, watercraft, snowplows, and aircraft. The company employs around 34,000 people and has an annual net income of ¥23.985 billion, or about $152 million.

What Are These Engines?

The recalled engines were used in lawn mowers and tractors sold under a number of brands, including Bad Boy Mowers, John Deere, Cub Cadet, Hustler, BigDog, and Kubota. They were manufactured between 2021 and 2023, and include the serial numbers FJ400D, FS600V, FS651V, FX691V, FX730V, FX801V, FX850V and FXT00V. Why Were They Recalled?

The engines were recalled after it was found that the engines could overheat during regular use, creating a risk of injury due to burns if someone makes accidental contact with the engine. In addition, there is a risk that the overheated engine could start a fire, creating a risk of both injury and property damage. Eight people have reportedly been injured as a result of this defect, although thankfully no deaths have been reported.
