In a recent accident, at least two students as well as both involved drivers were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a bus and a truck in Franklin County. The accident, which occurred early in the morning on April 7, involved a head-on collision between the two vehicles. While details around the accident remain unclear, all students involved in the accident are expected to recover from their injuries.

What Happened in This Accident?

The accident occurred at around 7:30 AM on Cowan Highway, near Arnold Farm Road in Franklin County. The bus was transporting nine children to South Middle School and Cowan Elementary School, when a truck going in the opposite direction suddenly crossed the middle line of the road and veered into oncoming traffic. The truck collided with the bus, resulting in severe injuries to the truck driver, as well as injuries to the bus driver and at least two students.

Why Did This Accident Happen?

At the moment, details surrounding the accident are unclear. While the bus driver was credited with reacting quickly to the situation, potentially avoiding a worse outcome, both drivers still required hospitalization for injuries suffered in the accident. The truck driver, in particular, needed to be airlifted away from the scene of the accident by helicopter, due to the severity of his injuries. The accident is being investigated by the Winchester Police Department, and the cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
