What is VRURC?
VRURC is the alternative name for Shenzhen ChuangliJiacheng Technology Co. Ltd., an electronics manufacturer based out of China. It sells its products worldwide, which includes batteries, chargers, and power banks, among other things. The company sold its chargers exclusively through Amazon in the United States.
What Are These Portable Chargers?
The VRURC portable chargers were a type of portable wall charger with model number OD-B7, which were intended to charge cell phones and other compatible devices. They were sold in black, blue, green, orange, pink, red and white color options, and came with built-in cables and a built-in wall plug. They were sold on Amazon between July 2021 and May 2023 for between $30 and $40 across the United States, with approximately 190,000 units sold.
Why Were They Recalled?
These portable chargers were recalled after it was found they could overheat and catch fire while in use, posing a potential burn hazard. One of these devices caught fire during a commercial flight, resulting in smoke flooding the sealed cabin. At least four flight attendants were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation from this incident.
