In the audio, the tension in Harrison Ford’s voice is chilling and it’s not for the movie cameras – it was a life or death situation for the mega-movie star and amateur antique plane enthusiast. Ford had been seen flying around Venice California all week in the bright yellow and silver vintage training plane. He had just left the airport when he radioed back that he had suffered engine failure and notified the tower he would be returning to the airport. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it and was forced to crash land on a golf course. Ford apparently deployed his plane’s large “cargo” emergency shute in an effort to bring the plane into a controlled landing without his engine. By the look of the photos, the plane pancaked under the stress of the high speed landing. One witness said the plane had “taken a nose dive on the 8th hole green”. (more after the audio)
Two doctors were playing golf on the course when the accident happened and rushed to extricate the actor from the wreckage and administer first aid. Witnesses said Ford was conscious and able to answer questions, but bleeding profusely from at least one wound to the head and face. A witness reported the actor was “gashed deeply”. The hospital where Ford was taken cited healthcare confidentiality concers when declining to speak specficially to Ford’s condition, but did confirm “the subject was in fair to moderate condition” and being further treated at this time.
